The Door to the Unconscious is a journey into the artist's inner world. The motifs
depicted on the border of the panel are related to her power animals and spirit
guides. The centre top of the panel shows the sun and the moon as a hint to the dual
aspect of this panel. The masculine and the feminine are active forces within each
one of us, longing to find their voice and balance. The two winged creatures on the
top are mermaids that can also fly. They represent the artist’s journeys into the
depths and heights of her soul. They hold the egg and the snake, both
representatives of the kundalini energy and its manifestation, which gets activated
upon fusion of the both forces.
On the right of the panel is Oxum, a water spirit that is responsible for maintaining the rivers and waterfalls. The dolphins that swing across it show the playfulness of the life in and around the water, where the frogs are playing instruments and singing together. The water then falls into the sea where it finds a humpback whale and some sea creatures. The flowing water find its way into the core of the earth renovating and keeping its life fresh.
Into the depths of the earth is a crystal cave where a Stork bathes itself while carrying a child in its belly.
On the left of the panel you see the tropical jungle, a tribal village, banana trees adorned by beautiful tucano birds and a tiger which is approaching a carefree monkey playing a flute. The tiger is the hunter, and the monkey the king of enchantment, able to bewitch its predators with the sound of its music.
The central snake is guarding the entry door into this soft and gentle world. It has two blue sapphire eyes and its body is made of copper and silver. It is stern yet malleable. It is coiled in perfect balance on its round bed. Note here some references to the Brazilian forests and the shape of the Brazilian flag as a reference to the artist place of birth.
